Well tomorrow will be a busy day packing up the car to head to London for the 4th annual Holly and Ivy event at Matthews Hall. It is always nice to return to my old stomping grounds and visit with the families and staff that made teaching so enjoyable. Relinquishing the standard table white table cloth, I have packed up my wire shelves to create displays of pillows, purses, brooches, and bowls, with my fabricated landscapes as the backdrop to my smaller craft items. I think I am starting to get the hang of presentation thanks to my awesome friend and shop owner Meaghan Armstrong. If you miss shopping at the event, you can call me to custom order purses or brooches for Christmas.
Welcome to Jill Price Studios blog where I share my process and progress as well as insight into other great work by artists and how to make it in the contemporary art world. Check out my work on line at www.jillpricestudios.ca or if you want to see my work in person, come visit me at my new home studio in Barrie, Ontario.

Art and Horrible Hairdo Caught on Film at Soupstock!
My art was featured on this cool website as one of the artists at Soupstock on Sunday. I am completely stoked about being in the same video as Jim Cuddy, but my hairdo definitely needed some help here. What is wrong with these camera men that they don't tell you these things!

Sand People Opens Tomorrow!
Thanksgiving weekend is always a good time to head north of the city and take in the golden fields and trees changing colours. This month I have luckily landed a show in Craighurst, Ontario at the Woodside Gallery, which is perfect timing as everyone heads up to the Horseshoe Valley to take in the Images Studio Tour. If you prefer summer over fall or winter, my new oil paintings capturing moments on the beach will warm your heart. Inspired from my summer vacation in Ocean City, each day I would document the positive and negative space of people scattered on the sand from my 10th floor condo. It wasn't until I zoomed in on the images did I realize that there were stories to be told for each subject. A real people watcher on the slowest of days, I found it fascinating to examine each person's stance, stature, gaze and belongings to guess what might be going on in their lives. Although not intentionally working as a voyeur, the zoom capabilities of my camera enabled me to look into people's lives from a very safe distance. The writing in the sand works to reveal who I am as a person just as much as it helps to create the character in the work. Come see the show and tell me what you might've assumed about these individuals and why so I can get to know my audience as well.
