Ottawa Visitors Made My Day!

Jill Price, Transfiguration #1, 2010,
mixed media on paper, 24" x 30"
There are times in our lives as artists, when we become discouraged, disgruntled, bitter and even depressed with how our practice is going.  Between the economy and a world filled with people who simply want images of comfort on their walls, my work has been a tough sell over the last couple of years.  It is rare that I will have people walk into my tent or studio and relate to my imagery or context of the work, but when they do, it makes it all worth while.  Yesterday was one of those days.  Have you ever noticed they happen just when you need them to.  It wasn't two weeks ago I found myself in tears out of frustration.  I asked my husband, how would you feel about yourself if you worked as hard as I do and yet don't get anywhere financially?  Worthless is what came to my mind, but frustration is what came to his.  He communicated that he doesn't understand how I do it, making myself venerable to judgement each and every day while keeping a smile on my face.  That's the easy part I thought, not being able to contribute or give the way I want to family and friends is what is difficult for me.
Anyways, yesterday I had three lovely people into my studio on their way to Owen Sound from Ottawa who literally fell in love with everything I do.  Not only did they praise my efforts, drive and aesthetic, they opened their pocketbooks to show that they believe in my and are will to invest in my future.  Hilary Syme, a cool woman in her own right, even offered up a room in her home in Ottawa if I ever needed to do an art fair or deal with galleries.  So sale #2 of my sale goes to a water treatment specialist about to visit many parts of the world who need help with their quality and supply of water.  A woman after my own heart.  I was told that Transfiguration #1 will be hung in her bedroom, a spot that she has been shopping for for years.
A big thank you to her friends Bill Falby and Loretta Fleming for their uplifting encouragement and accolades as well.  Remember, all works under $1000.00 are %20 off during the month of August.

  1. And thank you Jill for your commitment to your life work, your message and your part in the "Great Work". You truly work to say and show what society needs to hear and see today. Hurray Geoff for being such an empathetic life partner and supporter. Hurray Ottawa customers.
